I have seen something like this when I was a kid but it seemed too dangerous or expensive and borderline too crazy for me.
20 years later or so, I see this PPG or Powered Paragliding hobby with a different eye.
First it's not as expensive as you might think. $7,000 for the paramotor (pack sack with the propeller) and the glider or parachute cost around $3,000. So basically, you can have your own personal aircraft for just around $10K.
Second, I don't see it as dangerous anymore since unlike skydiving, you don't start using your glider at 10,000 feet but rather from the ground up so if your glider doesn't deploy, you stay safe on the ground.
Third, if like me you are a fan of everything that flies (I got a College degree in Aeronautics because I always wanted to fly like a bird) then you can't beat that sensation of flying 1 foot above the tree tops. No 747, Cessna or helicopter can give you that feeling.
Look at this 1 min video. The guy is flying a few feet from the Pisa tower and MOST OF ALL, very SLOWLY.

In my wildest fantasy, I wanted to make millions at the Stock Market and then buy a private jet and a helicopter and travel the world like that but now, pfff, who cares about the helicopter, PPG is THE WAY to fly around the world for $10 worth of gas per 2-3 hr trip at just 100 feet in the air.
Check this video here where the guy lands on a deserted island in the Bahamas.

You can put this "aircraft" in 2-3 bags...take them out and go flying.

Here's another video on that.

My dream goal now is to go fly 1 of these with my friends at the Grand Canyon, land on top of rock and go camping there.

In fact, if this video below doesn't give you the feeling of flying like a bird, nothing will...

Nope, never got the chance to get in the business, came out in 1991 and it was the 91 recession with 10s of 1,000s of mechanics laid off so I started in a new field of entrepreneurship and learned everything I could on how to start a business.wireman wrote:You get Your A &P license?
Yup, 2 stroke it is. Fairly light about 50lb or so and the glider picks all the weight so you don't feel the weight in your back after you take off.wireman wrote:not have to pack your chute just lay the lines out-- looks like a two stroke engine? Small few gallons gas, sounds peppy.
The idea of having your own private aircraft in 2-3 pack sacks REALLY turns me on. Now THIS is the life.

More like "thanks to all those limiting beliefs on money he doesn't have" you mean!wireman wrote:thanx to his wives father and his good business sense.
Pretty much all the businesses I started failed but when I was doing the same work as an employee under another company, my work won awards. So it's not because I suck at doing stuff but rather suck at attracting money.
Why do you think my life turns around this Law of Attraction? It's about 10% on "how to attract money" and 90% on "how to stop NOT attracting money".
Like I said, the LOA is like stepping on the accelerator but if you have another foot on the brakes, you're going nowhere and my 20+ year quest was more about removing my brakes.
